Workshop
Developing your user centric marketing concept
What is this about?
The (marketing) concept is the springboard to understanding and optimising the mix: product, price, place (channel), promotion (comm's). Rooted in market orientation, decided on your target, the concept articulates your (differentiated) proposition. It stipulates who you are (and there who you are not), and how you will approach your target users (your story).
During the workshop we will talk about the key principles to establish a 'winning' concept, and apply those to your start-up. The aim is to end the day with a number of concepts for your business, that can serve an input to testing or design, brand, comm's briefing.
What will you learn?
You will learn about some marketing principles, especially what makes up a successful concept. You will gain understanding in how this impacts design, comm's, etc, and in how to apply that to your business.
Who is this for?
Those startups that are still unclear about their (differentiated) proposition towards the market. We suggest for start-ups to work as a team (ie co-founders) if relevant. In principle, reasonable market understanding is needed as input - if not, the process will help to trigger the work required to improve market and user centricity
Who is the expert?
Daniel is a current independent market researcher, specialised in qualitative research aimed at understanding behaviors, attitudes, etc of users, as well as product design research. Prior to focusing on user research, he has been reponsible for launching an innovation project in the corporate FMCG context, in both Home Care and Foodservice (B2B). User research has focused on product design and communication research as well as digital experience optimisation across different categories.

User research has focused on product design and communication research as well as digital experience optimisation across different categories.
other info
We have decided to propose the activity as a 1-day workshop in order to allow sufficient time to actually write concepts during the day. Experience has shown that, although 'simple' as a principle, insightful concept writing is challenging and needs some creative push and iteration.
Where is this organised?
This workshop will be hosted in our Ghent HUB (Dok Noord). You will receive more info on how to get there after registration.

CTO Masterclass
What is this about?
A CTO in a startup is often a very technical person. They know the ins and outs of their software and their infrastructure. In the beginning, this is what a startup needs. When that startup starts to grow, the CTO's job changes. They are now leading a team of developers, rather than being a developer. When a CTO is not prepared for this, they start saying things like "I'm in meetings all day, I can't get my work done" or "What is everybody waiting on me for? Don't they see the work themselves?" Their CEO starts saying "my CTO seems to be overwhelmed. Are they the right choice to grow my company with?" or "My CTO is not delivering anymore. Should I replace them?" In the CTO Masterclass, you will learn about the changing role of a CTO in a growing tech company. We'll tell you what challenges you will encounter and how you can approach them.
What will you learn?
We'll teach you how to become a better CTO – better for your company, better for your CEO, better for your software team, and better for yourself. Expect to grow more comfortable in your job, to have less stress while getting done more.

User research has focused on product design and communication research as well as digital experience optimisation across different categories.
Workshop
How to talk to potential partners & what with IP?
What is this about?
This keynote will provide you with more information about intellectual property rights. These rights play an important role in the fashion industry as they are awarded to original creations while this industry is brimming with creativity. Not only is it important to think about IP protection for defensive purposes, and thus to combat counterfeit, but IP rights are also a valuable asset as they make your business more appealing to investors. This keynote will provide you with some basic insights on IP alongside some tips & tricks you should keep in mind from an IP point of view when running your business. That way you can avoid being underprotected and being outpaced by competitors.
What will you learn?
The importance of IP for your business. During the keynote we will teach you how to identify intellectual property rights within your business and how you can turn them in a valuable asset for this business. You will learn which intellectual property rights there are, the conditions you need to fulfil to claim these rights and how you can use these rights to your advantage. The fashion industry is a very creative industry and wherever creativity plays a role, intellectual property rights will arise and individuals will be looking to infringe those rights. This industry is thus highly susceptible to counterfeiting and that is why we will provide tips and tricks during this keynote on how to protect yourself against counterfeiting and act upon counterfeiting actions.
Who is this for?
Startups operating in the fashion industry that want to adequately protect their creations via intellectual property rights (copyrights, design rights, trademarks) and combat the counterfeiting of these creations.
Who is the expert?
1) Jens De Maere is an IP attorney at GEVERS who has been active in the IP field for over 6 years now. During this time he has assisted several clients with identifying, protecting, enforcing and monetizing intellectual property rights. 2) Katia De Clercq is specialized in all branches of intellectual property law with a focus on soft IP, i.e. trademark law, design law and copyright. She helps both multinationals and SME’s and always searches for balanced and cost-efficient solutions, taking into account the strategic and long term goals of her clients. She provides strategic advice on the protection of intellectual property, i.e. the necessity and scope of protection, the timing on the execution of long term projects, Given her experience as both a prosecutor and a litigator, Katia heads the GEVERS Dispute Resolution Service. In the context of this service she defends her client’s rights in disputes, where she aims to find out of court solutions by negotiating and drafting settlement and other IP related agreements. Finally she heads our Brand Protection Team which assists client with both their anti-counterfeit and illicit parallel trade strategy. This team offers a wide variety of services to battle counterfeit both off- and online.
